About the Position

In the role of Trainee Data Scientist, you will develop quantitative analyses and create data-driven services. During and after your trainee year, you will work on:

• exploring how we can utilize methods, algorithms, and data sources to manage operational reliability
• working in Python-based frameworks where applications are deployed
• monitoring the external environment and engaging with relevant research in the field
• acting as an ambassador for the Data Analytics unit and promoting increased data-driven decision-making.

You will have the opportunity to develop in areas such as forecasting, recommendations, optimization, and scenarios, and you will exchange experiences with colleagues who have worked in the industry for a long time.

As a Trainee, you will belong to the Data Analytics unit, which currently consists of about 20 employees and several consultants. The unit has a broad competence and includes various roles, such as Data Scientists, Power System Specialists, and Product Owners. The main mission of the unit is to increase data-driven decision-making within the System division.

In your role as a trainee, you are an important ambassador and face of Svenska kraftnät. We are looking for someone who is curious, engaged, and humble in the fact that no one knows everything from the start. As a trainee with us, you will have a unique opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. During the trainee year, you will participate in training, mentoring, and practical experiences that prepare you for the future – while contributing new perspectives and energy to our operations.

You have good collaboration skills and enjoy working with others to achieve common goals. You are goal-oriented and structured in your work approach, while also being relationship-oriented and building trust through attentiveness and respect.

We value a humble attitude towards learning – with us, it is perfectly okay not to have all the answers right away. The most important thing is that you have the willingness to develop, are open to feedback, and use it as a tool to drive your own development forward. Even though much will be prepared and structured for you during your trainee year, it is crucial that you take responsibility for your own work and development with us.

We place great importance on your personal qualities. Svenska kraftnät is a government authority, and it is important that you live up to the government’s value base.

When the program starts, you should have a master's degree as an engineer in electrical power, energy systems, technical physics, or computer engineering, or alternatively a master's degree in mathematics or natural sciences. Your degree should be issued in 2024, 2025, or expected in the summer of 2026. Since we are looking for someone who is new in their career, we would like you to have a maximum of two years of work experience, before or after your studies. Part-time jobs during your studies do not count.

You also have experience in:

• programming in Python as a tool for analysis (statistics, machine learning, optimization) from studies or work
• standard methods and packages in Python as well as for data storage and preprocessing, model development, and model evaluation through education or work
• some basic experience with version control, code review, CI/CD, and basic knowledge of Linux
• having completed a project related to data science within a course or through work.

In addition, you speak and write fluent Swedish and have very good oral and written skills in English.

It is an advantage if you have knowledge and experience of participating in an interest engagement or project outside of studies within a university or organization related to Data Science, electricity market, or power systems.
